Telangana Introduces Brahmin Welfare Schemes: Congress Did What BJP Could Not in Uttarakhand?

The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), has launched a series of exclusive welfare schemes for Brahmins, focusing on education, financial aid, employment, and social security. Interestingly, Telangana—where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not in power—has taken proactive steps for Brahmin welfare, while Uttarakhand, a BJP-ruled state with a significant Brahmin population, has not introduced any such initiatives. This raises an important question: Why has the BJP government in Uttarakhand failed to implement targeted welfare schemes for Brahmins, while non-BJP states have been more proactive?

Congress-Led Telangana’s Welfare Push for Brahmins

Under KCR’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi – BRS), the state government has strengthened the Telangana Brahmin Samkshema Parishad, which works exclusively for economically weaker Brahmins. The initiatives include:
Educational scholarships and hostel facilities
Skill development and employment programs
Financial assistance for Brahmin families
Marriage support for Brahmin girls
Pension schemes for elderly Brahmins

The Congress government in Karnataka has also taken similar steps, including free coaching for Brahmin students preparing for competitive exams and monthly stipends for poor Brahmins.

BJP-Ruled Uttarakhand’s Inaction on Brahmin Welfare

Despite being a BJP-ruled state, Uttarakhand has not introduced any specific welfare schemes for Brahmins. While the state provides general EWS (Economically Weaker Section) benefits, there is no dedicated Brahmin welfare board or financial assistance program.

Uttarakhand has a strong Brahmin presence in politics, administration, and religious institutions, yet the BJP government has failed to introduce any exclusive welfare programs. This is in stark contrast to non-BJP states like Telangana, Karnataka, and even Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh, where governments have taken concrete steps to support underprivileged Brahmins.

Congress Did What BJP Could Not

The fact that Congress-ruled states and regional parties like KCR’s TRS (BRS) have actively implemented Brahmin welfare policies, while the BJP government in Uttarakhand has remained silent, has sparked criticism. Several Brahmin organizations in Uttarakhand have pointed out that while the BJP claims to support Hindus, it has failed to introduce exclusive welfare measures for economically weaker Brahmins.

Will BJP Respond to the Growing Demand?

With Telangana, Karnataka, and other states leading the way, pressure is mounting on the BJP government in Uttarakhand to take action. Will Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami finally introduce dedicated welfare schemes for Brahmins, or will the BJP continue to lag behind Congress and regional parties in supporting the community? The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Uttarakhand follows the example set by Congress-ruled states or continues to ignore the growing demands of Brahmins.
